Commodore’s Sailpast & Potluck Social

June 15 @ 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Commodore’s Sailpast marks the official start of the PEYC boating season. All club members are invited to participate.

The day typically starts with a skippers’ meeting held in the north harbour parking lot. Special instructions for the day will be announced at the meeting. Following the meeting, the Commodore will head out and drop anchor in a position suitable to allow the fleet to pass by his stern. The fleet will muster according to instructions, then led by the Fleet Captain, sailboats will proceed in order of size on a starboard tack past the stern of the Commodore’s vessel. Power boats will follow the sailboats. Each boat will salute the Commodore as it passes the stern of the Commodore’s boat by luffing their jib, dipping their club burgee and/or dipping or furling the Canadian ensign at the stern and releasing it after the Commodore acknowledges your salute. The skipper and crew face the Commodore’s boat at attention with headgear doffed.

Once the participant’s boats are docked it is traditional to dress the fleet by either flying signal flags from the bow to the masthead and down to the stern, or by flying race and cruising award flags.

Join us for a potluck dinner and social at the Pavilion in North Shore Park following the sailpast. (location to be confirmed)
